Kit Review: Salomon Women’s Walking Shoe
After plenty of research into different ladies walking shoes, I chose the Salomon Women’s X Ultra 360 LTR GTX Walking Shoe, hoping they’d stand up to my daily dog walking adventures.
After 10 months of regular use, here’s how they’ve performed.
Initial Impressions of the Salomon Women’s X Ultra 360 LTR GTX Walking Shoe
Fresh out of the box, these Salomon women’s walking shoes look fantastic. The leather upper immediately caught my eye. I specifically chose this version for the waterproof leather and GORE-TEX material and sturdiness. They look built for proper trails rather than just casual pavement strolls.
The Quicklace system was another standout feature. It allows for easy on, easy off, and one-pull tightening, which is ideal when you’re trying to get out the door quickly with an eager dog waiting. The fit feels secure once adjusted, and it stays in place throughout the walk.
My feet feel supported in these shoes, with the reinforced toe cap and sturdy outsole, giving that reassuring sense of protection. This is exactly what you want from a decent pair of walking shoes.
Trail Performance: Salomon X Ultra 360 LTR GTX
Over the past 10 months, these shoes have now tackled muddy woodland paths, gravel tracks, coastal routes, hilly trails and damp riverside walks.
Grip & Stability:
The All Terrain Contagrip outsole performs well. On wet grass and slippery patches, I feel stable and confident. The supportive chassis adds extra control on uneven ground, which really helps on longer walks when your legs start to tire.
Waterproof Protection:
The GORE-TEX membrane has worked well so far. Walking through wet grass and muddy puddles hasn’t left my feet damp, which is essential for year-round use. When it comes to dependable Salomon walking shoes women can rely on in unpredictable weather, these definitely deliver. So far so good!
Durability:
The leather upper, molded toe cap, and full-foot mudguard feel tough enough for daily wear. The shoes handled daily use well and still look smart after numerous muddy outings this winter.
Comfort and Ease of Use
Comfort was good from the first wear, with no breaking-in time. The cushioning is supportive rather than overly soft, and the overall structure makes your foot feel secure and protected.
That said, I did find them slightly snug and my big toe touches the end. I had to switch to thinner socks to get the best fit, and in hindsight, I wish I’d ordered half a size bigger. If you plan to wear thicker hiking socks, particularly in colder months, I’d recommend sizing up. I have to ensure that I push my foot right back into the heel before tightening the laces.
The Quicklace system is one of my favourite features. It’s practical, fast, and perfect for everyday use. This is the first time I’ve used quicklaces and they were simple to use. I found it works well to keep my feet in position.
Price
I paid £107.25 in April 2025 which felt reasonable for a well-known outdoor brand and a waterproof walking shoe designed for regular trail use.

Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for sturdy, waterproof Salomon walking shoes that can handle varied terrain and daily mileage, the X Ultra 360 LTR GTX is a strong contender. They offer excellent grip, reliable weather protection, and the kind of durability you need for consistent outdoor use. Plus, they are comfy straight out of the box, with no breaking in needed.
My only regret is not going half a size up for a little extra room.
After 10 months of daily dog walks, these shoes have proven themselves to be a dependable piece of kit for everyday dog walks, across all terrain. A reliable pair of walking shoes becomes one of the most important bits of kit you own.
