ToggleWe spend a lot of weekends trying out different walks in Somerset, usually with snacks packed, kids in tow and our spaniel charging ahead like it’s the best day ever (which, to be fair, it probably is).
I love a walk with a view. And the good news is, so many of the best walks in Weston-super-Mare have exactly that. From coastal paths to hilltop viewpoints, most of the walks in this guide come with beautiful views of the coast or surrounding countryside.
This is our tried-and-tested guide to the best family walks in Weston-super-Mare, including the ones that are actually manageable with kids and enjoyable with a dog.
The best Weston Super Mare walks for families include Worlebury Woods, Brean Down, Sand Point and Middle Hope, Uphill and Bleadon Hill. These walks in Weston-super-Mare offer a mix of easy woodland trails, coastal paths and countryside views, making them ideal for kids and dog-friendly days out.
Worlebury Woods – Our Go-To Easy Walk
Worlebury Hill Road, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, BS22 9SQ
If I had to pick one walk we do the most, it would be Worlebury Woods. It’s one of those places that just works every single time, no matter everyone’s mood or energy levels.
The paths are wide and fairly flat, which makes it one of the best easy walks Weston-super-Mare has for families. It’s a great place for the kids to explore, with plenty to keep them interested along the way. Meanwhile, our spaniel is in heaven with all the smells and shady woodland paths.
- Wide, well-maintained paths (certain areas have been surfaced for wheelchair access)
- Woodland shade, ideal in warmer weather
- Play area at the start/end
- Historic Worlebury Camp to explore
- Views of Birnbeck Pier
- Parking Weston Woods car park on Worlebury Hill Road, BS22 9SG (free)
You’ll pass a large water tower along the route with a nearby water tap in the wall. Look out for a blue plaque on the wall marking a brief visit from President Eisenhower, adding a slightly unexpected bit of history to the walk.
This is always my recommendation for a stress-free family walk in Weston-super-Mare, ideal for all ages and my top pick for younger kids.
Brean Down – Big Views & Proper Adventure
Brean, Somerset, TA8 2RS
Brean Down is the walk we choose when we want something a bit more exciting. It’s easily one of the most dramatic coastal walks Weston-super-Mare has, and it always feels like a proper adventure.
You walk along this long, narrow ridge stretching out into the sea, with views on both sides. Being up on the ridge makes it feel like a bit more of an adventure for the kids and the fort at the end gives them something to aim for (and climb around once you get there).
It’s not the easiest walk, there’s a steady incline to the top and it can be windy, so we usually save this for days when everyone has a bit more energy.
Late spring is an ideal time to visit when the north side of the Down is covered with bluebells.
- Stunning coastal views the whole way
- Brean Down Palmerston Fort to explore at the end
- Open space (but keep dogs on lead near cliffs)
- Parking at the National Trust car park (paid, or free for members).
One of the most memorable Weston Super Mare walks if your family enjoys a bit of adventure.
Sand Point & Middle Hope – Picnic & Dog Heaven
Sand Point is probably our favourite all-rounder. If you asked me where to go for the best balance of easy walking, views, and a happy dog, this would be it.
There are beaches, little coves, and loads of open space, so the kids can explore while the dog has a proper run.
- Gentle circular route (around 3 miles)
- Quiet beaches and rocky coves
- Perfect picnic spots with views
- One of the best dog walks Weston-super-Mare has (dogs on leads around livestock)
- Free parking at Middle Hope or National Trust car park at Sand Bay
If we’re meeting friends or planning a relaxed day out, this is usually where we go.
Uphill - a varied coastal walk
This is one of those Weston Super Mare walks that has a bit of everything – woods, views, beach and café.
If you follow the route up to Uphill Beacon and the roofless church of St Nicholas, you’ll enjoy spectacular views. We always try to climb to the top of Uphill Beacon, the views are brilliant and it’s a real highlight of the walk.
One of the things we like about this walk is that you can easily shorten it if needed.
And the best bit? Uphill boatyard has a great dog-friendly café and an ice cream stop, always a good incentive to keep everyone moving!
- Around 3 miles, allow 2–2.5 hours
- A mix of woodland, hills, beach and nature reserve
- Includes Uphill Beacon and St Nicolas church (great viewpoint stop)
- Can be shortened or extended depending on time
- Café and ice cream at Uphill boatyard
- Some steeper sections, better for older kids
- One of the more varied coastal walks Weston-super-Mare has
More challenging than the Worlebury Wood Walk, but one of the most interesting if you want a bit of everything.
Bleadon Hill
When Weston feels busy, Bleadon is where we go for something quieter.
This is one of those Weston Super Mare walks that feels a bit more countryside and off-the-beaten-track. We found it quiet, mostly along footpaths, and there are nice views towards Crook Peak.
It’s not as dramatic as some of the coastal walks Weston-super-Mare has, but that’s part of the appeal. It’s peaceful and a nice change when you just want a slower, quieter walk.
- Around 2-miles depending on route
- Takes about an hour
- Some paths are rocky and uneven
- Quiet and less busy than other walks in Weston-super-Mare
- Good option for a relaxed family walk in Weston-super-Mare.
