Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2025

When: Friday 8th August  – Sunday 10th August, 2025

Where: Ashton Court Estate, Long Ashton, Bristol, BS41 9JN

Europe’s largest ballooning event comes to Ashton Court. This FREE festival is a great day out for families and is jam-packed with lots of activities. The highlights include the spectacular mass ascents which happen early morning (6am) and evening (6pm), the Night Glow (9pm Friday and Saturday) and lots of family fun including fair rides, stalls and kids shows.

Kids Fest 2025

When:  Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th, Saturday 12th or Sunday 13th July 2025 10am – 4pm.

Celebrate summertime on the farm with a family day of fun! The line-up includes magic shows, bubbles, inflatable MEGA slide, and Super-Pirates will be bringing big energy for a day of inflatables, interactive field games and fun activities! Mendip Family Festival

Family fun at Bath City Farm

Bath City Farm is a living, working farm, that’s also a much loved visitor attraction and a charity too. Visit the farm animals, feed the goats (£1/bag), community cafe and farm shop, children’s playground, woodland and nature trails (£1/trail guide).

During the summer you’ll find their Summer Holiday Farm Club (on selected dates), Summer Forest School (age 4 – 7 year olds) and a Magic Show on the Farm (22nd August). 

Entrance is free however donations are very welcome.

Kids Summer Activities at Animal Farm Adventure Park

Visit Farrington’s Farm Park in July/August for PYO dahlias. Wander through their paddock of colourful blooms and create your own beautiful bouquet of dahlias to take home. Tickets will be available once the flowers are ready to pick!

See the farm animals, jump into the straw pool, run off some steam in the indoor soft play and enjoy refreshments in the play barn cafe.

Family Day Out This Summer at Cattle Country Farm Park

The Holburne museum iss a beautiful Georgian building which sits right beside Sydney Gardens, offering both art and outdoor fun for families.

Inside, the museum showcases a fascinating collection of fine and decorative arts, as well as porcelain, silver, and antique furniture. The Holburne also regularly hosts family-friendly exhibitions.

Over the school holidays, the museum runs a fantastic programme of summer art camps, creative family workshops, and drop-in activities designed to inspire younger visitors. These hands-on sessions are perfect for kids who love getting stuck into painting, sketching, and storytelling through art.

Outdoor Sculpture Trails - Summer Holiday Events Somerset 2025

Bristol Gromit Unleashed Sculpture Trail 

You can look forward to a summer of sculpture-spotting fun from Monday 30th June to Sunday 31st August 2025. That’s right Bristol, Gromit Unleashed is back, and better than ever!  

Gromit Unleashed 3 takes place in Bristol, UK, with sculptures in iconic locations across the city and the surrounding area. See the complete list of locations.

The Aardman characters featuring are Wallace, Gromit, Feathers McGraw, Shaun the Sheep and the latest star of the show, Norbot.

As always, Gromit Unleashed 3 is raising money for The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.

Ty Sculpture Trail

Towerhouse Woods, Towerhouse Lane, Wraxall, North Somerset, BS48 1JR

Pick up a trail map from the tea shop and access the trail straight from the car park. The sculptures are mainly carved in stone and quite small, so you need to have a sharp eye to spot them. They all have a woodland theme, from different animals and animal footprints. There is a rope swing and a little brook in the woods too. Afterwards, you must try the delicious homemade cakes from the tea shop.

The best place to park is at Jackland Fishing Lake on the Clevedon Road.

Train Days at Yeovil Railway Centre, Yeovil Junction 2025

Looking for a fun day out with your train-loving kids? Then head over to Yeovil Junction for their Steam Train Days and Tractor Days. 

  • Steam Punk and Steam Train Day – Sunday 13th July, gates open 10.30 am.
  • Steam Train and Tractor Days – Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July 2025, Gates open at 10.30am.
  • Diesel Train Days – Tues 5th, Sun 10th, Tues 12th, Tues 19th and Tues 26th August 2025. Gates open 10.30am.
  • Steam Train Day and Comic Con – Sunday 24th August 2025. Gates open 10.30am.

Other attractions include:- Miniature Railway, Model Railway, Cafe and display of artefacts, and Shop.

Day out with kids at the Gartell Light Railway, South Somerset

Common Lane, Yenston, Templecombe, BA8 0NB

This privately owed narrow gauge railway in South Somerset has regular open days throughout the year.

They normally operate an intensive train service on the open days with trains departing from the main station at Common Lane every 25 minutes between 10:30 and 15.55.

Their comfortable 3 coach trains, pulled by either a steam or diesel locomotive, travel over the complete line calling at Pinesway Junction, Tower View and Park Lane stations. A return journey from Common Lane is scheduled to take 35 minutes though your ticket allows you to break your journey and alight at any station to perhaps join a later train after having a picnic or admiring the scenery.

Summer Holiday Events at Chard Reservoir, Somerset

Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve is a great site for bird watching and walking. There’s also a small woodland play area for children.

Summer holiday activities at Chard LNR:

  • The Many Moths of Chard Reservoir (28th July at 7-9.30pm & 29th July at 9.30-11.00am) – Discover the many moths of Chard Reservoir, and a multitude of flying insects besides, in a 2- part, free to attend event.
