The Festival of Nature, the UK’s largest free celebration of the natural world, returns to Bristol and Bath with a special Wild Weekend on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June. This year’s festival focuses on the theme of water, highlighting its vital role in supporting nature, biodiversity, and the environment.
Over the Wild Weekend, Bristol’s Millennium Square will transform into a hub of family-friendly nature activities. Highlights include an 8x8m pop-up wetland constructed by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore a living wetland habitat in the heart of the city. The weekend also features wildlife film screenings, interactive workshops, live performances, and a vibrant parade with giant puppets, all designed to engage and inspire attendees of all ages.
In Bath, the festival offers a range of events along the city’s waterfront, including wildlife walks, outdoor exhibitions, and paddleboarding taster sessions, all celebrating the importance of water in our natural ecosystems.
With over 80 events scheduled throughout the week, many of which are free, the Festival of Nature 2025 provides an excellent opportunity for families and nature enthusiasts to connect with the environment and learn about conservation efforts.

Make a day of it – Combine your trip with a visit to the Museum! Get a combo ticket for the Autojumble and Museum.
If your Dad loves his cars, he’ll enjoy rummaging through the stalls at this great outdoor event. The event space has up to 200 stands filled with everything from tyres and tools to books and spare parts. This Autojumble is the ideal event to find hundreds of spare car parts, tools, signs and books for all you motoring enthusiasts.

Treat Dad to a trip onboard a heritage steam train.
Your journey lasts fifty minutes and you’ll travel both ways from Bitton Station. First you’ll head north to our station at Oldland Common. Next you’ll travel back south onto the more scenic part of your journey to our station at Avon Riverside before returning to Bitton. At either end of the line you’re welcome to disembark and watch the locomotive running round to the other end of the train.
At Bitton, the station buffet and gift shop will be open throughout the day, where you can enjoy our delicious selection of hot food and drinks, as well as browsing through our shop to find a souvenir from your visit.

Bring your Dad’s along for a sociable morning viewing a great range of retro, vintage and classic cars. Join Somerset Retro Car Club at Farrington’s for their Father’s day meet.
No need to book, just turn up and it’s free!
The Play Barn will be open for the kids to burn off some energy. If you want food, you can treat Dad to a Sunday roast (book in advance) or breakfast in their cafe. Dad’s receive a free drink with their meal when tables are booked in advance.
Plus, the Garden Shed will open for the duration of each car meet serving breakfast baps as well as hot and cold drinks.

Treat Dad to a mouth-watering breakfast (served 10-11am) or Sunday Roast (served 12-3pm) at Sheppy’s Cider Farm this Father’s Day. Food is served in their House of Cider restaurant.
Alternatively, grab something delicious from the deli or order a picnic hamper online and find a secluded spot to enjoy it. Take a walk through their picturesque orchards and round the large pond where you’ll discover lots of ducks. Kids will enjoy their play park where there may be a couple of donkeys next door.

Celebrate Father’s Day 2025 in Somerset with a nostalgic journey aboard the West Somerset Railway. The UK’s longest heritage line stretches 20 miles through the picturesque Somerset countryside. Treat Dad to a memorable day filled with the sights and sounds of vintage steam locomotives, charming rural stations, and stunning coastal views.

If your Dad is a keen gardener, he’ll enjoy wandering around and exploring the open gardens in the village of Stogumber. Around 12 -15 gardens open to the public every year in and around this attractive small village between the Quantock and Brendon Hills, ranging from small cottage gardens to large country gardens.
Fabulous food is served all day in the village hall, with coffee and cake, excellent lunches and puddings, and afternoon teas. There are plant stalls, a church bric-a-brac stall and the large and interesting Grade 1 listed church is open.
Dogs on leads are welcome in most areas.

Treat Dad to a trip on the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world for a day of fun and an excursion he’ll never forget. Waverley is the last survivor of a 200 year tradition of pleasure cruises on Paddle Steamers. Preserving customs and memories of bygone days with sailings along heritage coastlines in Somerset, Devon and Wales.
Father’s Day has a trip from Clevedon Pier to Penarth in South Wales or Ilfracombe in Devon. There are many other options during the 2025 season – take in Lundy Island or a trip round the Holm Islands, head up the Bristol Channel under the Severn Bridges or over to the Pembrokeshire coast.
The ship boasts open promenade decks, a self-service dining saloon, period lounges, a gift shop and an open engine room.
Passengers aboard Waverley are able to watch the engineers at work as they operate the impressive steam engine and view the ship’s paddle wheels through portholes in the ship’s hull.
