The Pumpkin Rolling event is back again this October Half Term. Purchase a pumpkin, carry it to the top lawn and get rolling. After the kids have had their turn, it’s yours to enjoy a seasonal tradition in the picturesque grounds of the Abbey. The goal is seeing whose pumpkin rolls the furthest. Once you have had your fun you can take it home for Halloween.

Apple Day aims to raise “awareness not only of the importance of orchards to our landscape and culture, but also in the provenance and traceability of food.”

Taking inspiration from the mythical dragon perched on the museum roof, craft your very own dragon egg of lore: glimmering with shiny stones and shaped from air-dry clay. Take it home that same day.
Afterwards, follow the dragon trail through the museum to uncover tales of Somerset’s dragons, enjoy dragon-themed crafts and imagine your own tale of the poison-spitting beast or nightmarish monster within your gleaming egg.
Once a fiery catalyst of labour, the museum’s brick kiln is one of the last remaining in Somerset, now a relic of the past past, the perfect setting for crafting rare and fabled dragon eggs.

This Halloween follow the clues hidden around the gardens to find the culprit behind the spooky goings on at Hestercombe.
Don’t forget to try and spot Hester the bat and enjoy a play at the two play areas for some magical fun. Then stop of at the Stables Restaurant or Caffè + Gelato which offers home-cooked food, tea and cakes.

2024 – The Pumpkin Patch is back again this year so come and join in the fun pumpkin picking and carving session.
There’s lots of photo opportunities too!
There’s a Splash Spooktacular on Sunday 27th October, Thursday 31st October and Sunday 3rd November, their Splash Zone Pool turns orange! This only happens once a year so don’t miss-out! Booking is essential.
There’s also some spooooky sessions at Brean Play where the kids can enjoy a 90 minute indoor play session. Older children (7-11 years) can enjoy our Ninja Zone. Pre-booking is required.

Dunster Castle School of Magic – The Spellbound Familiars Trail
Dunster Castle school of magic returns for another adventure.
One of the professors’ creature companions has naughty streak and has cast a spell over all the other creatures to confuse their keepers.
Without the right familiar, the professors are unable to teach. Follow the trail around the grounds, complete the activities and work out which familiar belongs to which professor – can you find the naughty one?

Ghost tours 2025
