The Zombie Outbreak is coming! Your help is needed this Halloween to join Mendip Activity Centre’s Zombie Outbreak Response Team. Choose your weapon from axes, bows and rifles. Are you brave enough?

All archery, air rifle, axe throwing, archery active and tobogganing sessions are Halloween themed.

This is a game where archery meets the undead – shoot at zombies & Halloween inspired targets. Pumpkin - Halloween Event in Somerset

Attention all witches and wizards! Prepare to dive headfirst into the enchanting realm of Halloween magic at Wookey Hole, the home of Halloween. After exploring the caves, everyone can join in the Giant Pumpkin Trail and solve a mystery to win Halloween treats. It’s time to party with the Cheddar Man skeleton and his friends this October half-term. Cheddar Caves are hosting a a fun and ‘spooktacular’ skeleton trail and Halloween themed party on a trail around Gough’s Cave and there’s even a reward to take home with you! Join themed party games alongside arts and crafts.

Explore the Dreamhunters at Cox’s Cave, Beyond the View, Jacob’s Ladder, the Cliff-top Walk and the Museum of Prehistory.

Halloween at the Station – Join us for an atmospheric Halloween Train ride at Midsomer Norton. There will be Halloween activities and the shop and buffet will be open. Train tickets are All Day Rovers so cover travel on as many trains as you like.

Enjoy a Halloween Family Fun Day at the Helicopter Museum in Weston super Mare.

An amazing day of Spooky fun for the whole family includes watching live giant bubble shows in the indoor arena. Meeting the costumed characters on the prowl and exploring the haunted graveyard. Climb into the pilots seat of some of the helicopters and try on a pilots helmet. There’s also face painting and a few stalls.

Join the Explorer Dome Team for a series of exhilarating science shows at the Museum during October Half Term. Join in the fang-tastic fun day out in the beautifully autumnal setting of ‘Ninesprings’. Pick up a trail leaflet from the frightful ‘Friends of Yeovil Country Park’ stall (opposite Ninesprings Café) anytime between 11 am – 2 pm and follow the pumpkin markers through the eerie woods. Find the missing letters hidden at several marked stops along the way to help craft a spell. At the end of the trail you will find a witch or a wizard, be sure to tell them the missing word so they can cast their spell to conjure up a prize.
 
A buggy friendly/little legs short route will be available and clearly signposted. 
 
The trail takes around one hour to complete and the last entry will be at 2 pm.

This Halloween follow the clues hidden around the gardens to find the culprit behind the spooky goings on at Hestercombe.

As well as their spooky trail, there’s a potion making workshop from Sciencedipity (Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th October only) and Halloween crafts (Monday 28th October to Friday 1st November).

Don’t forget to try and spot Hester the bat and enjoy a play at the two play areas for some magical fun. Then stop of at the Stables Restaurant or Caffè + Gelato which offers home-cooked food, tea and cakes.

Halloween comes to the museum. Visit the museum after dark for some spooky fun! Come dressed in your creepiest costumes and be ready to explore the Museum by torch light as we turn out the lights for a night of family fun under cover of darkness. Take part in a spooky craft activity and follow our special Halloween Mystery Trail around the Museum. There’ll be someone waiting at the end!

13 Halloween sculptures to find (choice of picture quiz or wordsearch). Apple Day aims to raise “awareness not only of the importance of orchards to our landscape and culture, but also in the provenance and traceability of food” – philosophies that The Newt also hold dear.

The weekend is a two-day celebration of all things apple; from juice pressing to apple games, displays, recipes, cyder tastings and tractor tours through the orchards. Discover the deadliest creatures this October Half Term at Bristol Aquarium, by learning all about the different ways that their animals can be DEADLY! Explore the Aquarium after dark with some special spooky evenings this October.

Join the paranormal investigators for a special tour to unravel the story of Captain Blackbeard, and why his spirit has reappeared at Bristol Aquarium.

These family friendly tours will combine some fishy facts with some spooky shenanigans as you work with your guides to discover the truth about Blackbeard’s Ghost.

Fancy dress is encouraged. Booking is essential.

Roam the aquarium with a drink in hand after dark, when the tanks enter moonlight mode and their urban jungle comes alive with twilight lighting.

But beware, ‘tis the season when spirits come out to play, who knows which uninvited guests may be lurking in the shadows…

This is a free roaming event, but expect some slippery scares along the way. Pre-booking required.

Fancy dress from visitors of all ages is highly encouraged!

This event is FREE to members! Members are still required to book tickets. Please make sure you bring your membership card along on the day as you will be asked for proof.

Get ready for a spooktacular Halloween Half Term like no other at Old Down Country Park! They’re conjuring up a bewitching blend of workshops and activities for the whole family to enjoy. Brew up some enchanting potions, get gooey with slime making and carve out unforgettable memories as you create your own pumpkin lantern, picked from their very own pumpkin patch! But that’s not all – there’s a Trick or Treat Trail, a Party Play Bus and themed Monster, Wizard and Witches Days!

Discover Earth Like Never Before

Renown artist, Luke Jerram, is bringing his Gaia Earth artwork to his home city of Bristol. Gaia, a 7-metre Earth artwork, takes centre stage in Bristol Cathedral this autumn. This stunning installation, featuring detailed NASA imagery, will be suspended within the Cathedral, offering a unique opportunity to see our planet from an extraordinary perspective. The artwork, scaled to 1.8 million times smaller than planet Earth, is illuminated from within, with each centimetre representing 18 kilometres of the Earth’s surface. Amplifying this awe-inspiring display is an immersive soundscape composed by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones.

Experience the beauty and fragility of our home planet through this inspiring exhibition with an accompanying children’s trail. Bring the whole family for fun and educational eco-craft activities while learning about sustainability and nature in an engaging and creative way.

Price: There is no charge to visit the Cathedral and view Gaia during visiting hours. Donations are welcome.

Creepy Critters Workshop Hosted by ZooLab UK

Get up close and hands-on with real live animals at a ‘Creepy Critters’ workshop, hosted by ZooLab UK.  Meet the likes of Snakes, Giant Snails, Tarantulas and more in this interactive show – the perfect addition to the spooky Halloween Holidays.

Explore the castle grounds with a mythical Medieval trail and encounter friendly Medieval Monsters as you wonder. Discover five mystical medieval characters every day, that will ignite your imaginationvalong the interactive castle trail. Join the fun by dressing up and taking part in a Medieval Monsters ball in Sudeley’s Orangery before continuing the trail to discover the remains of a lost Medieval Village with a team of archaeologists from Dig Ventures.

On the 27th, 29th and 31st Oct there’s special effects around the grounds between 3pm – 5pm.

A kids Halloween festival near Gloucester is a frightfully fun day out for all the family during October half term…if you dare! There are spooky shows with cheeky hobgoblins, Glom and Gloria, scavenger hunt, maize maze, corn cannons and fancy dress competition. See how many pumpkins you can spot on their spellbinding trailer ride, street food, and their usual farm park activities: great new adventure play area, bouncy pillows, mini golf, tractor trailer rides, and quad train ride.

Come face-to-face with a giant dragon this Halloween at Berkeley Castle! With a whole range of mythical activities throughout the day ensuring everyone has a legendary day out. You’ll have the opportunity to meet baby dragons, and learn of their unique origin – before seeing if they have what it takes to tame the giant dragon (and perhaps even grab a photo).

Younger guests will have the chance to play games at Wizard School with their visiting wizard as they give you a crash-training course on how to be the ultimate wizard and tame those dragons!

There are thousands of home grown pumpkins, so put on your wellies and find your perfect one for carving.

Cattle Country’s Pumpkin Patch has thousands of home-grown pumpkins and gourds to pick! So grab your wellies (strongly recommended), a wheelbarrow and pick your perfect pumpkin. After bowsing their range of pumpkin varieties, complete the family games tournament (winner gets a prize and bragging rights). Then, get that all important autumnal photo amongst the crops and take your choice of gorgeous orange globe home.

When: 12th and 13th, 19th and 20th, 25th to 31st October 2024.

Price: Your Farm Park Tickets include entry to the Pumpkin Patch AND a whole day in the park! Pumpkins are priced by size and start at £1 each.

Autumn is the best time to visit Westonbirt Arboretum. Family activities include The Autumn Family Trail – Tree Guardians.

The ‘Tree Guardians’ trail reveals how our trees at Westonbirt are cared for, how they are protected in the wild, how trees cope with climate change and how we are working with tree experts around the world to protect and conserve trees. 

Try some wildlife detective activities as you go and have fun playing the mini  ‘Tree Trumps’ game as you follow the trail. Keep playing when you are home by downloading the rest of Forestry England’s Tree Trumps card game.

Find their note book along the trail and make a pledge to protect trees for the future!

Self-guided trail suitable for children aged 7yrs and over. Collect a trail map at the Welcome Building.

National Trust Halloween Trails in Somerset and Bristol

NT Tyntesfield, Somerset

Join the half term Halloween Trail. 

Gertrude, the witch who lives in Tyntesfield’s woods, is having a very bad day. Her mischievous cat Whiskers has torn her Book of Spells and Potions and now she can’t finish making Frog Fudge for her Halloween party.

Have fun trying the activities at each of the seven stations on the trail then return to see Gertrude. If you can tell her the ingredients she needs, she may even give you a prize!

Pumpkin display at Tyntesfield National Trust in Somerset

Where: Dunster, Minehead, Somerset, TA24 6NY

Dunster Castle school of magic returns for another adventure. It’s time for the Pumpkin Games. The Pumpkin Games trophy has gone missing and you have a list of suspects! Compete in the games and follow the clues to find out what happened to the trophy!

Ghost Tours 2024: Dare you join a chilling tour of the most haunted parts of the castle? Listen as your storyteller tells tales of ghosts and apparitions, leading the way through the castle, with a few surprises and scares along the way. Ghost tours suitable for age 13 and over.

When: The school of magic trail runs from Saturday 5th October to Sunday 3rd November 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Ghost tours Monday 28th and Thursday 31st October 2024 evening (1820-2300 hrs.), booking is essential. Age 13 and over.

Dunster Castle, Somerset

During October half term discover the autumnal adventure trail around the garden. Discover clues and facts about spiders as you walk round Prior park.

Simply solve the puzzle as you follow the map to claim your prize at the end.

Discover the bat trail this October half term. Swoop your way around Dyrham Park finding clues and facts about our favourite upside-down friends. When you complete the trail don’t forget to collect your treat at the end.

When: Saturday 26th October to 3rd November 2024 from 10 am to 4 pm.

Price: Normal admission price or free to NT members. Plus the trail sheet will be £2.50 each.

Dyrham Park, House (National Trust)

Where: Lytes Cary Manor, near, Somerton, TA11 7HU

This autumn, put your wellies on and enjoy the popular Lytes Scary Halloween Trail which runs though October half term. Learn about some of the wildlife that thrives here and the carved characters and creatures you may spot in the house or simply enjoy some quality time in the great outdoors.

When: Saturday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November 2024. From 10am to 15:30pm each day and will take 1-1.30 hrs to complete.

Price: £2.50 per trail (includes a mask, trail sheet and pencil). Normal admission fees apply, (FREE admission to NT members).

Visit Bath Assembly Rooms during October half term and get busy creating Halloween themed crafts. You’ll make your own ghost ornament using felt or a spider in a web using sticks and string. Other activities that you’ll try are origami pumpkins and turnips and make your own 3D haunted paper house. Have a go at trick or treat hula and of course some spooky themed colouring in. 

When: Saturday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November 2024, between 10 am and 2.00 pm (last entry 1.45 pm).

Price: Craft activities included in admission price.

Where: Barrington, near Ilminster, Somerset, TA19 0NQ

Apple collecting in the orchards during half term, a fun activity for all the family to enjoy.

Join the fun in the orchards at Barrington Court to gather in the windfall apples with the mini wheelbarrows. Barrington Court orchards are home to over 100 varieties of apples.

Discover the Pumpkin Trail this October Half term. Explore the grounds to find pumpkins hiding around the estate. See how many you can find as you use your senses, spot autumn colours and look out for the pumpkins in disguise.

You can also join the ranger team in the orchard, with their Wildflower Seed Sowing event this October Half Term. They’re sowing wildflower seeds ready to be planted out next year. (29th – 31st October 2024). Suitable for all ages.
